Writing Prompts: Learning

Part 1: Ways You Use the Ultimate Self-Help Book

woman-readingThe Bible is the ultimate “self-help” book, designed by God so that we might learn what is most important for us to know.
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4, NIV).

Writing Prompt

Reflect on your walk as a Christ-follower.  How much of a role to you take – and can you take from now on – as a student of God’s Word as you continue to learn how to live?

Part 2: Are You a Know-It-All?

There are times you may believe you already know all you need to know in a particular situation or about a certain topic. When are you most apt to adopt that view … and how does that impact God’s movement in your life?

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” (1 Corinthians 1:19, NIV).

Writing Prompt

Each of us at some point believed we are truly wise or knowledgeable enough about a particular subject. Journal about a time when perhaps you felt you “knew it all.”

Part 3: Contrary to Common Belief …

The Bible is packed with illustrations that at first glance appear to be counterintuitive.  But as you invite God to speak to you through the scripture, He uses seemingly contrary principles to help you learn, change, and grow.

Here is an example:  “If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become ‘fools’ so that you may become wise.” (1`Corinthians 3:18, NIV)

Part 4: Do You Like to Learn?

You may see God’s Word as a valuable gift that allows you to learn about Him and His ways … or as a confusing collection of teachings that adds to your burden. Which is it for you?

“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning” (Proverbs 9:9, NIV).

Part 5: The Buffet Table – Don’t Push Away. Stay a Bit Longer!

Christ-followers embrace the Bible as the Word of God.

But have you ever viewed it as a buffet table from which to pick and choose? There is so much to digest. Some is appealing to you. Some you’d rather pass by.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (NIV).
