People often say, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” It’s a myth. Haven’t you faced a trial that felt impossible to handle? The truth is, “And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God allows trials in our lives so we find our way to Him and lean on Him when the going gets tough.

You’ve been there – in a storm.   “Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish, and he said, ‘I called out of my distress to the Lord, And He answered me.'” (Jonah 2:1-2)Just as Jonah cried out to God to save him from the belly of the fish, God wants us to turn to Him when life becomes overwhelming and uncertain. Never let the presence of a storm make you doubt the presence of God.

Week #3: When You’re on an Emotional Roller Coaster

In the movie The money Pit, Tom Hanks describes his house reconstruction project as an “emotional roller coaster.”

The emotional roller coasters in your life are marked by ups and downs: an illness, job change, a loved one facing addiction, a relationship breakup …whatever the emotional roller coaster you’re on, God wants to bring you through it.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Week 4:  Who Is In Control?

When life seems to be going along pretty well, do you find that your focus on God seems to wane? It can be tempting to feel as though you are in control. Maybe you tend to live life on your own terms. But when you hit that bump in the road … when your world gets messy … when the unexpected crops up … you quickly cry out to God for help. God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Week 5: How Do You Change Your Attitude?

When I want something, need something, hope for something – and it doesn’t work out – I surely don’t feel joyful. Instead, I grumble or even want to give up. Life just isn’t going the way I had imagined.

But circumstances change when I change my attitude! In Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul encourages us to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
